John Horn sent me this photo of his innovative rolling Vandercook work station. John says, “It’s two feet deep and four feet wide. It’s a prototype so it is pretty crude. I love having the furniture cabinet close at hand. I park this work station right behind the operator so that he or she can just turn around and reach whatever they need. The raised box is glass-topped for mixing ink. I really like the cork board too. I pin up proofs, notes, and samples so they’re easy to find. The cases below have paper for makeready, a lead and slug rack and a case of small furniture. One could also store tympan and packing too.”

stopping oscillation of roller on SP-15? - Posted February 26, 2008
Hi there,
Does anyone know how to temporarily stop the oscillation of the oscillating roller on an SP-15?
I have a project I’m hoping I can do a blending technique with, and I was thinking it would go much easier if there’s an easy way to stop the oscillation of that top roller. The area I’m blending is only about 5 inches wide total, and 3 colors, so it’s kind of a small, sensitive area. If I can’t stop the oscillation, it will blend too much too fast.
It’s not a big deal if it can’t be done or is too complicated, but after chatting with some friends, I figured asking here was worth a shot—thanks in advance.

Vandercook 4 pulley and belt - Posted February 25, 2008
Hi all. I used my Vandercook 4 successfully for about a month, then began hearing a clanking sound behind the belt guard, which turned out to be the upper pulley rubbing against the guard. When the motor is on, the belt gradually moves toward the operator side of the pulley, then starts to move off the pulley. This action moves the pulley off its pin.
My question: is there a screw or a pin that attaches the upper pulley to the pin it sits on? There was nothing loose inside the guard when I took it off, but the mechanism looks as though it needs an attachment, though I see nothing listed in my manual.

SP-15 ink drum gear broken - Posted February 17, 2008
Hi there—This is my first post. I have an SP-15 (serial #26151), and I looked through my manual, but am still unsure of the part names. It appears the gear on my motorized roller is broken. This is the gear that the belt / pulley (?) runs on to actually move the roller. For clarity, here’s the area in question:
I was printing this afternoon, and paused, turning off the press and raising the rollers to answer the phone. I came back about 10 minutes later, and when I turned it back on, nothing was moving. When I looked around, I realized the pulley / belt (?) had detached from the roller gear. As I attempted to get it back on, I discovered THIS:
Yikes. A chunk of the gear is suddenly missing. The strange thing is that I didn’t hear anything break—just turned off the press and raised the rollers to answer the phone. I found a few pieces of the gear—they appear to be clear plastic.
This one gives a really clear picture of how much of it is missing—quite a bit.
I’m hoping I can just find another gear and replace it, but I’m not sure how it all fits together. Does anyone know if this is a readily available part, and if so how I’d go about replacing it?
Thanks so much,
Tara
Vandercook 32-28 - Posted February 13, 2008
I noticed the Friction Spring Assembly on one of the photos for the 232P restoration and conversion project. I’m looking for a set for my 32-28. If anyone knows where I could find two please let know. Here is a photo capture from one of the 232P pictures for reference.
Thanks,

Sp-15 lock-up bar not locking to the side - Posted February 11, 2008
I’m unfamiliar with exactly how a lock-up bar works but I don’t think mine is not working correctly. The extension block will not move when I tighten the bar down. (isn’t it suppose to?) I’ve taken it apart and noticed that there was a spring like part inside but when I put my finger in the hole and move the bar back and forth nothing moves. I was thinking that it should move up which would push the extension block out. (see attached image) As is, the lock-up bar doesn’t fit inside the bed bearers as it’s too wide. Would really appreciate any information/advice for what the problem is and how I could fix it. Thanks so much! Amanda Thomas
Sp-15 form roller help!! - Posted February 9, 2008
A friend and I just had our rollers recovered from NA Graphics and we’re sitting here putting them back together and the gear will not line up where it is suppose to. It’s the same for both sets of rollers. We’ve tried each side and every roller trying to get the gear to line up. It seems like we need to cut the roller down but this seems odd because shouldn’t the specs be correct? Please help! I’d like to have the press up and running this weekend and NA Graphics is closed until Monday. What should we do? Thanks in advance! Amanda & Berwyn
Vandercook No.1 - Posted February 7, 2008
I’ve located another table top press in the san francisco area. I’ve looked it up in the models index and it appears to be the second generation with the grippers but it does not have the inking tray. He’s asking $600. Is this anyone here or can anyone comment on the price etc? It comes with some accessories.
It is in the Potrero Hill area. Would it be worth taking a look at? It’s more than i was expecting, but…
thanks again for the vandercookpress site!
