Remove the worm crescent for rainbow rolls all day long.
    – Lift the roller trip lever
    – Spin oscillator tube so it covers the worm gear
    – Use a 1/8″ hex key to loosen the set screw on the side of the tube
    – Use a medium flathead screwdriver to remove the crescent holder on the face of the tube
    – Push the tube way from the worm gear to expose and remove the worm crescent
    – Center the tube on the frame

If needed, take this opportunity to clean the worm gear, crescent and crescent holder and internal threads for the holder on the tube.

Universal III is my press too.
I have not taken anything out like you are asking about, but I have been able to do rainbow rolls without too much muddling. After my ink is set up with all the colors spread right, I just limit the amount of time the form roller/occillating roller assembly is down and engaged, and also turn off the press whenever I have to do something that requires much time. I lay the ink down on trip, lift up the assembly and do my print. Depending on your edition length this will work for a while. The more ink you add and have to spread out, the more it will blend.
