Sleepless in Savannah - Posted October 15, 2008

Hello. I have been searching tirelessly for a Vandercook Proof Press (preferably #3 or #4, Universal or SP) in working condition to purchase for use in a printing job I am working on. I would greatly appreciate and advice or suggestions that I can get to help me find one. Thank you.

Sleeve attachment for hand-activated grippper bar - Posted August 6, 2008

This post related to Hand gripper lever for a No. 3. –PM: Here’s a quick sketch. I don’t have a #3 around me, but if the Gripper Trip Lever is anything like a #4 or an SP-20, you can undo the top 2 screws and let it swing free, slide the tube over, and reassemble.

Hand gripper lever for a No. 3 - Posted July 23, 2008

Here’s an idea for a hand-activated gripper lever to aid sheet feeding on the No. 3 Vandercook. In the drawing at left, a handle attached to the gripper trip lever is pulled toward the operator, thus moving the push rod against the trip bar which forces the gripper stems to rise. A notable “feature” of [...]

Vandercook #3 Oscillating roller - Posted April 3, 2008

I am in the midst of restoring a Vandercook #3 and am in *big* need of an oscillating roller. I understand this is a hard piece to come by (given that it is usually sold w/ the press itself). But if anyone could further help or direct me in this search, I would be grateful. [...]

The Arm’s Vandercook #3 on eBay - Posted October 12, 2007

In order to make room for a new press I have listed The Arm’s Vandercook #3 proof press on eBay. Starting bid is $1. This press is missing its inking roller setup and would have to be inked with a brayer, but it should prove to be a good deal for someone printing monotypes or [...]

Does anyone need a new bed plate? - Posted August 24, 2007

I am about to have replacement bed plates made up for both of my Vandercook 320Gs and my #3 and will have enough of the .050″ cold rolled steel to make one extra bed plate.  Would anyone like to buy one for either of these presses?  The price will be fair.  Contact me for details. [...]

Vandercook No. 3 Carriage Help - Posted August 3, 2007

Hello. I recently had my Vandercook No. 3 overhauled with a new paint job. While the press looks beautiful, the carriage with the cylinder no longer “locks” in place. I think something mechanical was painted over that should not have been, so if anyone has any suggestions about which part on my press is affected, [...]

Cleanup?? - Posted July 11, 2007

As some of you are aware, I recently hauled my No. 3 from the eastern shore of Maryland to my new home in Kentucky. Having thanked my lucky stars that the truck did not tip over (more on this in a later post), I am now faced with trying to restore my beautiful beast. Overall [...]

No. 3 sheet delivery tray - Posted May 22, 2007

I am on the lookout for a sheet delivery tray. I am not in a rush, but if one of you comes across a stray or extra, please let me know. Thank you. Chris

Seeking some inking parts for the new #3 - Posted April 6, 2007

I picked up this Vandercook #3 (serial 13165) a few days ago and am interested in tracking down the parts it is missing. The press seems to have been partially disassembled to replace the rollers and the associated parts were lost before it was put back together. Here is a list of what I am [...]

Galley Height? - Posted February 9, 2007

I recently purchased a Vandercook #3. I have used Vandercooks in the past but it has been some time. I was struck by the phrase “galley height” and was wondering what it means exactly. The information that I have found on this press refers to a bed plate that comes with the press. I will [...]

No. 3 and No. 4 Roller Assemblies - Posted January 4, 2007

Daniel Morris asks if the No. 3 and No. 4 roller assemblies are interchangeable. I am answering in a new post so that I may add images –PM The top frame assembly (one large diameter steel oscillating roller and two small diameter steel riders) is identical (and removable). The difference is in the bottom frame [...]
