More dates and venues coming soon!

Vandercook Maintenance
May 19-20 Center for Book Arts
May 3-4; 5-6 Ontario College of Art & Design
April 7-8 Signal Return (Detroit)
March 23-24 Book Arts Association of Newfoundland and Labrador

Participants will learn all the points of maintenance, cleaning and lubrication so as to be prepared for potential problems and make or direct repairs. We will also discuss all models of interest and other brands as warranted. Whether you use BookWorks’ presses, own a press, or are thinking of buying one, this workshop will provide excellent direction for your future presswork. Bring your questions, photos and/or broken parts. Paul will also share examples from his collection of Vandercook literature.

Proof Press Finesse
May 7-8; 10-11 Ontario College of Art & Design
Developed for intermediate printers, this problem solving workshop will help improve the technical quality of your presswork. With a focus on production printing using proof presses we will closely examine the control of inking, cylinder packing, proper height of plates, form imposition, lockup and registration aids. By standardizing materials (as much as possible) we will do “minimum makeready” to achieve maximum results — just like Vandercook intended. Bravely bring examples of your worst printing to critique in class.

Letterpress as Artists Prints
May 12 Open Studio, Toronto
This class is ideal for artists who wish to explore the printmaking possibilities of letterpress printing. Participants will be introduced to hand typesetting, operation of a Vandercook proof presswork and low-tech relief image-making processes and painterly inking techniques.

Letterpress on a Vandercook
May 17-18 University of Arizona
Join Paul Moxon for a basic overview of letterpress printing on the popular Vandercook proof. This hands on workshop will prepare you to buy your own press, take care of it and print with it, or work effectively in a group studio space. Paul will explain the differences between various models, and similar brands. workshop provides excellent guidance for your future presswork.
