Challenge 15MP oiling question

Hello All,

I have a Challenge 15MP (similar to the Vandercook SP15). Not having an extensive manual for this particular press, I am not sure I’m finding all the appropriate oil ports to lube it correctly.

Does anyone have a schematic showing proper oiling points for this press? If not, is there one for the SP15 that I could use as a guide?

Thank you in advance for the help.

All best,

Emily Hancock, St Brigid Press

I don’t know about the Challenge version, but there is a good photo of the SP-15 oiling point a few posts down on the Vanderblog page. That little blip at the 12 o’clock position above the ring around the handle is an oiling point.
The only time I’ve needed to dissassemble the cylinder carriage of a Vandercook was for an SP-15 that had been improperly lubricated at this spot. Don’t know what had been used but it looked like dried root beer when the mechanism siezed up.

Thanks very much! I appreciate it — and so does my press ;-)

Challenge M series presses, like SPs, have few oiling points.
The main thing to do is to oil the cylinder eccentrics, at base of hand crank and push rod, weekly.Wipe bed bearers, cylinder bearers, and under rails with a slightly oiled rag daily. Oil form roller bearing blocks monthly.
