I recently purchased a Vandercook 219. It’s missing the lockup bar. Does anyone know where I can find one?

  1. The roller assemblies are pretty much interchangeable on old and new 219s; the distributors are slightly different but can be used on either press. The only difference I can think of would be the roller driving gears, which changed from a coarse to a fine tooth at some point before the press was redesigned. But you just need to match whatever tooth is on the rack.

  2. Thanks Paul. The serial number is 18865 with power carriage and ajustible bed. I found the form roller housing at Don Black. Is the form roller housing the same for all 219 Vandercooks? Still looking for the lockup bar.

  3. Both of these items may be hard to find. Especially the roller frame. Start with “NA Graphics”:info@nagraph.com. They have the original drawings, so If you can afford it they may be able to have one custom made.

If you can’t afford this then post an ad on “Briar Press”:http://www.briarpress.org/, then email Andrew Churchman and John Barrett’s Letterpress Things they are used equipment dealers.

Also: send me an email with your serial number (and note whether it has a power carriage and an adjustable bed) and I will add it to the “census”:https://vandercookpress.info/census/.
