Hello!
Our SP-15 motor just stopped working. The power is still running to the press, because the light bulb next to the power switch still lights up. The motor is warm, but not hot. The press had been operating for only about 10 minutes when this happened. We haven’t had this problem before. I see a post from August 2017 about this similar problem, but no concrete solution. The motor is original and the cord looks scary. Is there a way to find out if the motor is dead and need of replacement?
Thanks!
Follow up: I work at a large academic institution, where this press is. I made friends with the mechanical engineering folks a few months ago. They were excited to come and help out… they checked the power at a few places to trace that the problem was indeed coming from the motor, They removed the motor and found a burnt out spade connector. I’m very grateful that replacing this was all it took to fix, although this maybe a sign of future problems.
Thanks for the recommendation, Daniel. I was horrified to see the original plug as depicted in the photograph. It is clear the press hasn’t had updates since it rolled off the factory floor. We are in the process of replacing the plug.
Thanks for your advice, y’all!
The SP-15 motor is not easily sourced. It is worth trying to find someone able to rebuild it. While you have your press apart, you might want to replace that cord. You can order one here:

You can take it to a small motor repair shop or maybe campus facilities. It’s straightforward to remove: disconnect the wiring, and remove the four nuts on the underside of the motor box, slide the motor forward, then disengage the timing belt.
