I’m having an issue with my 15-MP, and it’s done this nearly the entire time I’ve had it. When inking, the rider doesn’t evenly get inked. I took the rollers off and checked to see if the rollers were swelling on the ends, and if they are, it’s only a .0005″–.001″ difference. Has anyone seen this before?
On my Challenge MP15, the rider roller does not get evenly inked until rolling the press forward on trip or print through a cycle. This has happened since the rollers were brand new and presumably uniform in diameter from end to end. I noticed that there is nothing pressing the rider roller down. Not sure if there is a different arrangement on the SP15 that Challenge was copying.
Once the press starts printing or cycling from end to end, the rider roller quickly becomes evenly inked.

The journals are the stepped components on the ends of the rider that sit in the oscillator lift arms. See the attached image.
I checked the rollers at the end and at the middle. If there is a difference between the end and the middle, it is very slight, a thou or less.
I’m not sure of what you mean by “journal ends of the riders should be 3/8″”
Have you checked the rubber further in? You may have low spots. Also the journal ends of the riders should be 3/8” diameter. Vandercook. Replacements should fit. It’ll take heat and/or drilling out to remove and simply press fitting to install new ones. X-20512 from NA Graphics. Lemmy know if they can’t help.
