I am interested in changing the oil from the old original Vandercook oil to new SAE-20 oil in my Universal 1 and my #4. My question is how to go about it. The #4 has little flip cups for the oil and the Universal is just screws. Do I drain them from the screws, do I take off the flip cups, etc? If anyone has any suggestions or has done this before, I’m all ears!
SO, the presses have not ran low on oil and have always had oil. The oil that is in them is the original Vandercook oil. Is this OK or should I go ahead and put SAE-20 in the presses?
Yes, you drain from the screws. The oil should only need to be changed if the motor ran with little or no oil causing grinding and metal shavings in the gearbox. Or, far less likely, if flood water, or sawdust, etc. was able to mix—this is possible on models with the oil cups.
