Both are better suited to proofing or printmaking than short run production printing.

The Challenge has a reciprocating bed, but lacks cylinder grippers and an inking assembly. The Vandercook has a stationery bed and also lacks cylinder grippers, but if complete has a separate inking carriage.

Bed-mounted sheet grippers or a frisket could be rigged for either.

Condition may be the over-riding factor. Worn bed and rails on the Challenge could be fabricated much easier than the Vandercook.
