Looks like when new rollers were put on the press, two of the roller height adjustment mechanisms were put on backward, so that the locking nut faces the wrong way. I assume they should face inward, but we have two that face outward. Anyway, a few days ago, one of the rings came off the bearing so I thought I would take the opportunity to switch out those adjustment gizmos. Manual says to loosen roller end screw to take the mechanism off, but I’m not finding any joy with moving that screw. Any hints? Thanks.
Send me video. Without this, or being on site, I can only guess:
– geared roller not seated in the bearing bracket causing the gear to skip across the gear rack
– one or more roller end screws have backed out and are grinding into the bearing bracket
– oscillator not rotating because the crescent is locked down
– a wiper blade may be bent or angled against one of the racks
One problem has developed after I got everything reassembled (I had to reassemble it as it was before). After about 10-15 runs, the press will chatter rather wildly about 1/3 of the way on its return to home base. When this hsppens, we would roll forward, towards the end of the bed, and then roll back slowly, and the chatter would go away. It sounded like it was rolling over or hitting something, but it was not over the form at this point, and I could not see any obtruction. I have to assume I must have assembled something incorrectly. Any way to really diagnose this? Thanks.
The dowel, or pin, is pushed inward by the setscrew causing the screw to splay agains thet interior threads of the roller core. Thus the screw will not backout
Also it appears that our knobs are not oriented correctly. I can’t seem to find a good illustration of that in our manual. I’m going to put this back together and send a pic. Thanks.
Thanks, Paul! We have just discovered that instead of two righties and two lefties, in terms of the roller adjustment mechanism., we have in fact four lefties, so to speak. Since we have been using this press for years this way, I’m guessing while it is not ideal, it is workable.
However, only one of the screws seemed to have the loose pin inside it. They all have the little locking allan bolt, but no pin. Is that ok? I can’t figure out what the pin actually does. Thanks!
This is a special screw with a set screw and dowel inside. Use a 1/8″ hexy key to loosen the set screw, then you can remove the entire screw.
If the ring isn’t too out of round you can apply Loctite and reassemble.
