Hi! I’m in the UK and looking at buying a Vandercook 4C, serial no. 6018, made by Miller. We visited it this weekend, but there are 3 things I’m worried about. I’d really appreciate some advice. Points 2 and 3 are the biggies for me. I’m maxxed out on budget to buy and move the […]

No 4 assembly questions
Hello all! I’m looking at the #4 in the studio where I work, and wondering about 2 things. I don’t have another #4 to compare to, and can’t find the answer in my parts guide. Question 1: This pin is missing, can I purchase a replacement, or is it not important? It is missing at […]

Chattering and Carriage drifting on Vandercook No. 4
I am working on a Vandercook No. 4. The carriage does just fine engaging in print and trip. However, the carriage will not stay put in the home position. On the opposite side of the operator, there is a broken spring that is keeping a latch in place. I wonder if there is more to […]
MoreVandercook No. 4 Roller Clutch Plate Bearing
Does anyone know the original O.D. of the bearing that engages the Roller clutch plate? I’m thinking the one I have is very worn and not engaging the clutch plate. It does look like the wedge on the press has already been spaced out about an 1/8th inch. I could space it out more. but […]
MoreReassembly after new rollers on 215/4
I just got new rollers for my Vandy 215/4 and gave the parts on the roller frame, gears, etc a thorough cleaning. When i try to put the pin in the clutch block, it does not seem to want to go either way. What am I doing wrong? (BTW, ain’t them new rollers purty??)
MoreWestern 4c forme roller gear wear & noise
Hi Paul, I’ve recently taken on a Western 4c which whilst operational hasn’t been looked after very well in certain areas. Consequently there are some issues, one of which is a kind of whining noise that is audible as the cylinder travels across the bed. This only occurs when the forme rollers are engaged. Close […]
MoreVandercook 4 Cylinder Misaligned
we aren’t able to slide the paper into the latches as the cylinder rolls up too close… worried we may have to take it off to repair? Does anyone have any ideas?
More#4 Broken Body?
IMG_853IMG_8534 The body of my #4 is damaged. The corner opposite the operator at the far end of the press bed is not supported. You can see that the bottom of the frame is not level as well. Bringing the carriage to the end of the press causes it to rock back and forth. I […]

MoreVandercook 215 gripper pedal chain slack
Hello, We have a Vandercook 215 in our shop that has been going through maintenance and now we have arrived on the gripper pedal chain slack. We have started to notice the dead pedal with about three links worth of slack in the chain and the pedal is about 1-2 inches off the ground before […]
More#4 Form Roller frame- how much play?
I’m working (virtually) on a #4 that previously was working great, and all of a sudden there are roller issues. The pins and clutch plate were replaced in January so they don’t seem to be the issue. What seems to be happening is that the entire frame moves side to side with the motion of […]
MoreNon-operator side of Vandercook 4
I’m in search of a diagram or photos of the non operator side of a vandercook 4- specifically the mechanisms that catch and release the cylinder- the screws and parts keep loosening and occasionally bend- resulting in the cylinder not locking in place and the grippers not performing correctly. I’ll attach a few pics here […]
