I understand that there is an option for the powered Universal series presses in which the powered grippers would raise and close without having to press on the foot pedal. How is it activated? Where can I find blueprints or technical operating manuals (more detailed) of the Uni presses? Thank you once again!

Lubricating the gear teeth on the Vandercook No. 4 impression cylinder
Hello. I am a newbie in the process of restoring a Vandercook No. 4, SN 18794. My husband, who was in aerospace mechanical engineering for many years, is providing advice and much moral support. He was surprised when I told him that the procedure for lubricating the impression cylinder gear teeth was to apply a […]
MoreDoes anyone need a new bed plate?
I am about to have replacement bed plates made up for both of my Vandercook 320Gs and my #3 and will have enough of the .050″ cold rolled steel to make one extra bed plate. Would anyone like to buy one for either of these presses? The price will be fair. Contact me for details. […]
More219 Old Style Feedboard
I am restoring a 219 OS and am missing the metal feedboard lip and side guide. I’m trying to research all of my options. I was hoping someone out there may have an extra one? Any suggestions for alternatives? I’ve been in contact with Fritz and he is going to look for the blueprints. Ted […]
More219 Oldstyle Gripper Problem: too tight a grip
The 219 OS I’ve been using has developed a terrible problem, which started about 6 months ago, and nothing I do seems to help. The grippers raise fine, but when depressed into the paper to HOLD the paper, the grippers clamp down very hard, MUCH harder than is needed to just hold the paper in position […]
MoreVandercook No. 3 Carriage Help
Hello. I recently had my Vandercook No. 3 overhauled with a new paint job. While the press looks beautiful, the carriage with the cylinder no longer “locks” in place. I think something mechanical was painted over that should not have been, so if anyone has any suggestions about which part on my press is affected, […]

MoreIn need of some side guide parts & info…
I finally have found a side guide for the last of the seven Vandercooks here at The Arm, but it appears to be missing some pieces. I am not very familiar with this style of side guide so can anyone tell me (or show me) what it is that I am missing? I think this […]
MoreUniversal I form roller and ink
Hi, I’m currently printing on a friend’s Vandercook Universal One press. However, when the temperature drops in the shop and I have a good amount of ink on the rollers, the back form roller gear appears to miss the teeth in the track and will ride atop of it creating a frightening grinding noise. Neither the gear nor […]
More215 form rollers
_Comments are applicable to the No.4_ Need as much specific information on the Vandercook #215 form roller mechanism function. The one I’m trying to troubleshoot is at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio. The roller mechanism that propels the rollers as it traverses the press bed will not disengage when it returns to the feedboard, and as […]
MoreCleanup??
As some of you are aware, I recently hauled my No. 3 from the eastern shore of Maryland to my new home in Kentucky. Having thanked my lucky stars that the truck did not tip over (more on this in a later post), I am now faced with trying to restore my beautiful beast. Overall […]
MoreSP15 hand gripper lever
Last week I was in New York to teach workshops at the “Center for Book Arts”:http://centerforbookarts.org/, and also visited a couple of printshops including Daniel Morris’s “The Arm Letterpress”:http://www.thearmnyc.com/information/letterpress in Brooklyn. Some readers may know that has several Vandercooks including this rather unusual SP15 that has a hand lever mechanism to raise the paper grippers […]
