I had my motor rewound last year, and after putting it back in the press, I noticed that the drum would stop rotating from time to time, and sometimes the press would not turn on, even though the light turns on. This week, it won’t start up at all even though the light switch turns […]
MoreVandercook No.4 motor jolts and more: easy to fix?
Hi! I’m in the UK and looking at buying a Vandercook 4C, serial no. 6018, made by Miller. We visited it this weekend, but there are 3 things I’m worried about. I’d really appreciate some advice. Points 2 and 3 are the biggies for me. I’m maxxed out on budget to buy and move the […]
MoreCapacitor on SP-20
The motor on our SP-20 isn’t getting power anymore, even though nothing is wrong with the electrical system. We think it might be a problem with the capacitor. Does anyone have experience with this? I appreciate any thoughts. Thank you.

MorePowered Universal I blowing the 1/2A fuse
I have a powered Universal I. I was using it the other day, and it was behaving just fine. At one point, the carriage stopped moving when I engaged the switch. I checked, and one of the 1/2A fuses had blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew immediately upon powering up the press (i.e. […]
MoreSP20 Roller height changing as carriage travels end-to-end
Hello! I’m having a challenge with our SP20. When checking / setting the roller height at different points (as the carriage travels from end-to-end), when the press is in ‘Print,’ the roller height changes. Specifically, when the carriage is closest to the feedboard and moving forward for about 10 – 12 inches, the roller height […]
MoreNo 4 assembly questions
Hello all! I’m looking at the #4 in the studio where I work, and wondering about 2 things. I don’t have another #4 to compare to, and can’t find the answer in my parts guide. Question 1: This pin is missing, can I purchase a replacement, or is it not important? It is missing at […]
MoreVandercook No. 2 question
New user here… The printmaking studio I volunteer at has a V. No. 2. I cannot find, feel, or hear a trip mechanism on this press. Is there none? I’d love to make a tympan/frisket arrangement, but I can’t imagine keeping registration on impression both directions. I’d be grateful for enlightenment! Thanks very much.

True weight of No. 1 and its stand
Hi. I saw the catalog listing for the Vandercook no.1 on this site. The weight is listed as 410 lbs. Is that the shipping weight (with crate and packing), the weight of just the press, or the weight of the press and stand? I just bought a no.1 and have to move it to its […]

Chattering and Carriage drifting on Vandercook No. 4
I am working on a Vandercook No. 4. The carriage does just fine engaging in print and trip. However, the carriage will not stay put in the home position. On the opposite side of the operator, there is a broken spring that is keeping a latch in place. I wonder if there is more to […]
MoreVandercook No. 4 Roller Clutch Plate Bearing
Does anyone know the original O.D. of the bearing that engages the Roller clutch plate? I’m thinking the one I have is very worn and not engaging the clutch plate. It does look like the wedge on the press has already been spaced out about an 1/8th inch. I could space it out more. but […]
